Fred went into the ER a couple of days ago after falling on his right knee. Turned out he had a blood clot in his leg, rendering his foot almost dead. The doctors put him on anti-coagulants, which didn’t dissipate the blood clot but they did manage to cause hard-core internal bleeding. Several blood transfusions later and a close call with his maker throughout the night last night, Fred is back on the mend. He is still, however, at risk for amputation (right foot).

DR. SETH FRANKLIN: Fred, we may come to a place where we have to pick your life or your foot. While you’re lucid and understand that concept, what are your feelings?

FRED (voice shaking): You know, Seth, I love life. If it costs a leg, it’s worth the price.
