TAKE NO PRISONERS

“It’s best to visualize this as war. Take no prisoners. Kill all enemies.”

So recommends my Wild Wild West sheriff, Dr. Chamberlain. “This is something we can try to fight.”

Try, I’m thinking. Try?

“How do you feel?” asks Jack, after the appointment, walking down UW’s beautiful glass-encased footbridge – and out of the sheriff’s earshot.

“I can’t wait to go home and Tumble,” I say, just because I love the war quote so much and I’m still unnerved by the use of the word “try.”

“Yeah. You’re so lucky you have cancer,” notes Jack. “I got nuthin’!”
